A blue gingham potholder
I'm not entirely sure why, but I love the gingham pattern. Maybe it's because of Dorothy's blue gingham dress in The Wizard of Oz . Gingham seems to be having a moment. Barbie wore a pink gingham dress in the Barbie movie. (I'm almost tempted to buy the doll for myself.) Taylor Swift is a fan of gingham. And other celebrities have worn gingham this past year. In any case, here's the pattern: Vertical (warp) : A medium color all the way across. I used powder blue. Horizontal

Two-one basketweave potholder pattern
I saw the image of this Christmas potholder online some time ago and tried to recreate it but no luck. The other day, though, I noticed that the pattern is the Two-one basketweave pattern for an 18-page loom on Piglet's Potholder Pattern site. (There is also a pattern for a 27-peg loom ). Thanks to whoever came up with this color combo and posted the image online. Here's the potholder on the loom. I also tried this pattern with pine and winter white:

"Twinkle, Twinkle" potholder pattern
Every now and then when I run out of ideas, I roam the internet for some potholder weaving inspiration. Today I saw a potholder online I really liked, but I knew I wouldn't be able to figure it out without following a pattern. I hoped it might be one of Piglet's Potholder Patterns , but at first, I couldn't find it on their site. Then I clicked on every possible pattern, and low and behold, it was there: they call it "Twinkle, Twinkle." According to their notes about the pat

Christmas surprise potholder pattern
I found this pattern, called Open Cross, in the Loop Group section, on the Friendly Loom site. (You can join the Loop Group for free.) I altered the pattern a bit by making the middle of the potholder a solid color, instead of alternating colors for both warp (vertical) and weft (horizontal). For a 19-peg loop, the red loops are on pegs 8-12. For a 27-peg loom, the red loops would be on pegs 10-18 (or basically the cross part of the pattern). What's the surprise? After I m

Pumpkin spice potholder
I made this potholder for a friend who looks forward every year to the pumpkin spice season. The colors reminded me of a pumpkin spice latte topped with whipped cream. Colors: Bright white, winter white, spice, and ochre Here's the finished potholder: And here's how I made it: Warp (vertical loops from left to right): spice ochre winter white spice ochre winter white spice ochre winter white spice ochre winter white spice ochre winter white spice ochre winter white Weave in h

Leftover loop day (#2): Twill diamond potholder pattern
It's another leftover loop day, when I try to find ONE more potholder idea among my ragtag collection of random loops before ordering more loops. I experimented with the Two-Two Twill Diamond pattern on the Piglet potholder site, which I've done before , using four colors instead of two. This diamond pattern reminds me a bit of Navajo and other Native American weaving patterns. Here's how it came out on the loom, using chocolate, spice, yellow, and white loops on an 18-peg l

Split-loop potholder pattern
I saw an image of this potholder on Pinterest, but I wasn't able to find a chart for the pattern, or any indication of who made it. (So, thanks to whoever came up with the design!) Because the potholder was on the loom, though, it was pretty easy to figure out. Basically, you'll need to think of one loop as two strands. Each row starts out slightly differently, but then you will simply go over or under two strands all the way across, finishing the row by either going over or

Leftover loop day (#1)
Sometimes when I'm waiting for my next loop delivery, I dig into my loop bag to see what I can come up with. I found an idea for a pattern in Potholder Loom Designs by Rachel Snack , a book I bought a few years ago. I had doubts about the lime green loops in the middle, but it turns out that's what makes the design intriguing, which is why I need to trust others with a bolder design sense. My impulse is usually to create a very matchy-match type of pattern. I didn't follow th
